Reflection
In the first weeks, we read two articles during the class, “An Interview with Travis Binns” and “High-School Star Hospitalized for Eating Disorder”. These two articles are talking about obsession, and what kind of situation they are facing. Reading the words, I learned the enthusiasm of Travis's lifestyle and knowing that obsession might cause serious problems through Ashely Jones’s experience.
For the draft 1, I had interviewed my classmate Victor and wrote down his obsession on collecting things. Victor is fond of collecting clothes and toys, especially Pokémon. After looking at the picture of Victor’s room, I was amazed by how he decorated the room with his collections. He put those toys on his bed and left a little space to sleep, while the clothes on his wardrobe are almost full. I realized we should really understand how to manage our life properly, instead of letting unnecessary things take it over.
In the student-teacher conference, I received the draft that I wrote down before. I was shocked by the score and the comment, because I remember to write down a whole page as asked, but receiving exactly the same score as the other student who had written down a few sentences. Just when I feel confused, I suddenly think of Tammy’s reminder. She told the class that she didn't need a lengthy story to write the interview, just simply say the topic she asked. I realized that I had made a mistake, and I wrote the interview as a essay! Through the conference, Tammy pointed out the mistake of the draft and it does make me realize that I really need to work on my writing skill.I used to write an entire essay after reading a topic, but now I know that different writing requires different forms. In this course, I think I have learned a lesson and I am hoping to learn more from it!
